If today is Day 0 then tomorrow must be Day 0 plus 1 on the countdown, or just the new Day 0. We are supposed to be at the hospital by 600a. Poor Keane can't eat past midnight. Sounds like a rough morning. Apparently this is how the schedule is going to break down:
- 6a - 730: Sit around and do nothing while Keane is hungry and miserable in pre-op (can you tell how much I am looking forward to this part)
- 730a - 900a: Keane leaves us and goes to the OR, receives immediate sedation, gets IVs, etc. and gets prepped for surgery
- 900a - 100p: Surgery
- 100p - 230p: Recovery
- 230p - 400p: Transfer to ICU team
- 400p(ish): Reunited with his family in ICU
Ok, that seems like a really long day. Besides getting bumped one day, the schedule for the entire hospital course seems to have doubled/worsened: not 1-3 days in the ICU, but 3-5 days; not 3-4 days on the floor, but another week or so on the floor, for a total of 10 - 14 hospital inpatient days; most likely a NG tube will be used (feeding tube) for days 2-3; and no longer one day of intubation, but apparently we should prepare for 2-3 days of intubation.
Double everything. Double the anxiety for sure...
